Product Advertising Online ? SMB Advice & Tips

When you?re interested in product advertising online you have a number of different options. These options range from pay-per-click (PPC) advertising through search engines like Google to direct ad placement, and include several other alternatives. The most important part of product advertising online, though, is making sure that you have some way to measure the effectiveness of your advertising campaigns. Measurement is important because you need to know whether your online product advertising is profitable or is costing you money.

Below are some of the top ways to approach product advertising online, and how to measure whether what you do is effective or not.

The easiest way to try out paid product advertising online is with Google AdWords or Yahoo! Advertising. By giving them a budget that you are willing to spend, along with information about your website, you can reach hundreds, thousands, or even millions of search engine users. In this form of online advertising, you select and bid on key terms that are related to the products you sell.

For example, if your company sells a variety of cocoa and chocolate products, you might bid on the keyword, ?hot chocolate?. The amount you bid on this term dictates where your advertisement appears in relation to other businesses who are bidding on the same keyword. Generally speaking, the amount you bid is the amount you will be charged if somebody clicks on your ad.

Let?s say that you bid $1.50 for the term ?hot chocolate?. To keep things simple, assume that there?s a competitor who is bidding $2.00 and another one that is bidding $1.25. This means that your ad will appear in the #2 slot ? below the $2.00 bidder and above the $1.25 bidder when a person does an internet search for the term ?hot chocolate?.

The great part about PPC advertising is the fact that you can measure and monitor almost every aspect of your product advertising online. The goal here (as is the case with other forms of advertising as well) is to make more money from your online advertising than you are paying for your ads.

An alternative to PPC is display advertising. With this approach, you pay for the number of times your advertisement appears instead of the number of times it?s clicked. With display advertising you either contact website owners directly or work with one of many display advertising networks to get your product advertisement to appear on websites.

The price you pay for display advertising is known as CPM. This stands for Cost Per Thousand and represents the amount you will pay for every thousand times your advertisement appears (known as an impression). For example, if the rate is $2 CPM and your advertisement appears 50,000 times in a week, then you will be charged $100 (50,000/1,000 *$2 = $100) for that week.

Some websites also charge a flat rate for display advertising. For example, you may pay $500 for your online ad to appear on a website for a month.

Although not as easy as with PPC, you can still fairly easily measure your return on investment with display advertising.

For even more focus on your website, consider paying for product reviews. This type of product advertising online involves hiring a website, typically a blog, to write a review about one or more of your products. The blog includes a link to your website as well as a disclosure, as required by law, that they were paid to write the review. If you pursue the product review approach, make sure that the review is impartial. If the review seems too ?rosy?, readers will quickly see through this veil and will be turned off.

If your products or services are local, consider paying for local listings. There are also free ways to do this as well. For example, if you?re a landscape architect in the Minneapolis area, then you might purchase a local listing on one of the many local directories. Local listings do best when you sell your products or services in a specific location and you also have a physical business address.

Affiliate programs represent an interesting approach for product advertising online. Your cost with affiliate programs is not out-of-pocket but rather an opportunity cost. With affiliate programs, you work with other websites and help them promote your products or services. When these websites (known as affiliates) send a visitor to your site and that person buys something from you, then you pay the affiliate a percentage of the sale (usually between 5% and %15).

Many online businesses find the greatest success in pursuing product advertising online that includes a combination of paid advertising as well as organic traffic. The term organic refers to the natural ranking that a website has in the search engines.

If you own a furniture store in Tampa, the content on your website might target keywords such as Tampa furniture store, Tampa discount furniture, Tampa furniture outlet, etc. If you rank well for these search terms, then your website will appear higher in search engine listings. When a potential customer searches for a term you target and then clicks on your website link, you don?t pay anything for that traffic.

Studies have shown that internet users generally trust organic listings more than paid advertisements and, as such, are more likely to click on a website link that ranks at the top of search engine results.

It may take you a little while to zero in on the product advertising strategy that works best for your website. Like many learning experiences, this will require some trial and error. To know whether you have hit on a winning strategy though, you will need to know where your customers are coming from.

Use a web analytics program, like Google Analytics, to track where your website?s visitors are coming from. Drill down in the data that the program collects to find out whether the visitors to your website from a particular source are new or returning visitors.

You can even see if the visitors from your paid product advertisements are clicking through several pages to make a purchase or if they are ?bouncing,? which means leaving your site from the page that they entered on. Google Analytics is free to use and easy to install on your website, which makes it a great tool for you as you refine your paid product advertising online strategy.

While you will inevitably make adjustments as you refine your online advertising strategy, there are some key success factors that all online advertising shares?

Getting a visitor to your site is much easier than having them buy something from you. Even with the best online advertising strategy, if a prospective customer doesn?t find what they?re looking for when they get to your site, you?re not going to make a sale. Make sure you do everything possible on your site to trigger a sale. Make sure your website is professional, your content is compelling, and you have a product that people want to buy.Test out a variety of ads and keep those that perform the best. Even small wording or color changes can improve the performance of product advertising online.Foster a sense of community. Just like the offline world, word of mouth is the best form of advertising. Get engaged with social media and cultivate online relationships with your customers.Honesty is the best policy! Don?t mislead people with inaccurate claims, descriptions or testimonials. This approach will only cost you in the long run and can even get you banned from some online advertising providers.

Worker admits stealing card, racking up $4K playing Facebook games

POSTED: Friday, June 29, 2012 - 1:45pm

UPDATED: Friday, June 29, 2012 - 1:49pm

A hotel worker in Montgomery County is accused of stealing a customer's credit card and then charging more than $4,000 playing games on Facebook.

On Nov. 18, 2011 an Illinois woman was traveling to Florida and stopped for the night at the Super 8 Motel in Clarksville on Holiday Drive.

Police said the woman paid for the room using a credit card, but her information was copied and later used without her permission.

When the victim looked at her March 1, 2012, credit card statement, there were 42 fraudulent transactions totaling $4,159.99 between Feb. 1 and 17.

The victim filed a report with her local police department in Washington, IL, who conducted an investigation and traced the source of the illegal transactions to Belinda Fay Blake, 51, of Clarksville, TN, an employee of the Super 8 Motel.

All of the transactions, except one, were to Facebook.com for online gaming such as Cityville, Farmville, etc. The one exception was a transaction for the purchase of computer security software.

On June 20, 2012, Illinois police contacted Clarksville police, who started investigating.

Police interviewed Blake, who admitted to using the Illinois woman's card information to make purchases for online gaming. Black also admitted to using several other people's credit card information to make purchases.

Blake is charged with illegal possession and use of a credit card. Her bond was set at $5,000.

98% The Island President

In the simultaneously inspiring and harrowing documentary "The Island President," Mohamed Nasheed was elected to the presidency of the Maldives, a 2000 island archipelago nation in the Indian Ocean, bringing an end to a thirty-year repressive dictatorship in 2008. But a new struggle presents itself in global warming. Currently, the effects there can be seen in erosion and the groundwater. All of which could lead to a unique culture and nation being literally wiped from the map, and its country's population turned into 'environmental refugees.' So, instead of spending valuable resources on health care and education, he has to go with sea walls and other protective measures. So, through this example, we get a disturbing look at what all of our futures may be like if we do not change our ways very soon.(With the use of some great shots, the Maldvies do seem like something out of speculative fiction.) If our behavior affects all others across the globe, then why can't the butterfly flap its wings in the opposite direction, which is where Nasheed comes in, not only in speaking across the world(I'm not recommending invoking World War II usually in speehces, but if you have to, mention Czechoslovakia), but also in proposing to make his country entirely carbon neutral in 10 years by relying on renewable energy sources like solar and wind, making the Maldives an example for the rest of the world. This is harder than it sounds with the economic interests of countries like China and India making things especially difficult with a memorable climax at the climate conference at Copenhagen in 2009. But sadly, Nasheed did not have that much time as he was ousted in a threatened coup in February of this year.

Insolvency law seals fate of Coryton refinery

LONDON (Reuters) - When Petroplus went bankrupt early this year, many in the industry thought that at least the Coryton oil refinery in England, the most modern and efficient of its five plants in western Europe, would survive.

So far it is the only one to have closed, doomed by the priorities of bankruptcy law, the government's laissez faire approach and strategic calculations by trading houses who saw more opportunities from other refinery assets.

Workers at the plant in Essex, near London, were furious after the administrator PwC confirmed it would be turned into a storage depot in a deal between Royal Dutch Shell, Vopak and Greenergy, meaning the loss of most of around 900 jobs at the site.

A bid from a former Russian energy minister was dismissed by the administrator as not credible.

"We all undertand that if there's overproduction in Europe, refineries have to close, but why does it have to be the British one?" said Glenn Relfe, a process operator at the plant.

Those with less of a personal stake in the highly rated plant are also surprised at its closure.

A $150 million (96 million pounds) pound refit due in September made the plant look less attractive for investors, and increased the need for at least short-term government support to ensure a deal.

But even factoring this in, with a Nelson complexity rating of 12 - meaning it can produce a high proportion of lighter fuels that fetch a higher margin - Coryton was seen as stronger than numerous plants owned by Petroplus and other companies.

"There are 20 better candidates to close, it is a decent size, decent complexity, decent location, none of it perfect, but OK," a trader who buys and sells crude oil and oil products said.

LEGAL FRAMEWORK

It was bankruptcy law's emphasis on the interests of creditors, more than any other reason, that saw Coryton close, according to Coryton's joint administrator Steven Pearson of PricewaterhouseCoopers.

"The UK is the most un-influenced market in Europe, where economic logic drives decision making, not politics, so they are not influenced by politicians, unions, or other non-quantifiable factors," he said.

"Statute in this country maximises the overall dividend that creditors receive, in France it is to minimise the impact on employment."

Petit Couronne in France, a much less efficient and modern Petroplus plant, got a pre-election reprieve in February when the country's president at the time, Nicolas Sarkozy, cooperating with Shell, stepped in to provide a multi-million euro support package for the ailing plant.

The British government's line, by contrast, has been that overcapacity in Europe and the UK makes any such state support wasteful and inefficient.

There has been no clear evidence of state support for the other Petroplus refineries, Ingolstadt in Germany, Cressier in Switzerland, and Antwerp in Belgium, though some analysts and traders suspect that there may have been some support behind the scenes at a local or central government level.

STRATEGIC AIMS

These refineries have benefited from the strategic aims of major trading houses Gunvor and Vitol, which have access to Russian crude oil and want more control over how it is brought to market by owning well-placed refineries and storage facilities.

Coryton, which was more focused on supplying a well-fed domestic market, did not benefit from the location of Antwerp, bought by Gunvor, which is in a key trading hub where oil products are priced.

Traders said that the relatively complex German plant Ingolstadt, bought by Vitol and others but not currently operational, processes Kazakh Caspian blend grades that are sold by state-controlled Russian oil firm Rosneft.

German bankruptcy law, by contrast with Britain's, played a part in helping keep the Ingolstadt plant alive, Pearson at PwC said, as it requires the government to pay out three months wages for companies that go bankrupt.

"That of course is an enormous subsidy, and if you look at the strategy, they stopped refining, and there still hasn't been a drop refined."

PwC's Pearson said that another feature of Britain's law was that it gave him, as an insolvency practitioner, a strong personal incentive to close the plant rather than keep it open.

Pearson said he had taken on great personal risks, due to personal liability rules that do not exist in continental Europe.

"I took risks on this that have never been taken by insolvency practioners to keep this plant running. The most prudent thing to have done would have been to close it on the first day, and lay everyone off."

Added to this, all the oil at the site was owned by the Petroplus group, rather than the subsidiary company that owned Coryton, so that there were very few working assets that could be used to sweeten a deal, Pearson said.

However, for workers facing unemployment the fact remains that a plant which was seen as a cash cow for the group is now the only one to be closing. Some feel that Britain is making a sacrifice that will benefit competing refineries on the continent.

"It seems like the government is underwriting jobs and prosperity in mainland europe at our expense," Coryton process operator Relfe, who will soon be made redundant, said.

Cressier in Switzerland, in which Vitol now has a stake, is seen as more strategically important for the land-locked mountainous nation, than Coryton is for the UK which has plentiful ports as well as ample refining capacity.

In the United States, refineries which were on the critical list have been rescued too, making the closure of Coryton even harder for those working there to take.

For example, in April, Delta Airlines became the first U.S. airline to buy a refinery to control the cost of jet fuel.

Notifications get a makeover in Jelly Bean

Jelly Bean Notifications

Notifications are just one of the areas of the new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean UI that are getting a makeover. Buttons for callback are included now within the notification drawer when a missed call shows up. Pretty neat.

That's only the beginning though. Notifications are now expandable. Essentially, it's like putting widgets into the notification bar. They auto expand and collapse, and there is a lot of emphasis on functionality outside of the related applications. Google+ notifications can show up the pictures within the notification tray itself, for example.

Another example showed up the Pulse news app notifications. Currently we just get a boring old message telling us there are new stories. In Jelly Bean, it's pretty much as though the application itself is sat in the notification bar. Slick. Notifications just got a whole lot more interesting.

Invest In One Of The Best: Electrolux Appliances

For over 90 years, the Electrolux Company has been at a leader in the home appliance industry. Most Americans have Electrolux appliances in their homes. What started as a dream to improve the vacuum cleaner by company founder Axel Wenner-Gren, has turned into an international business that is a world leader in manufacturing high quality and good looking home appliances for the busy family.

Electrolux re-imagined the large, expensive, and difficult to use vacuum cleaner models that first appeared on the consumer market. Electrolux appliances also come in the form of washing machines, refrigerators, dishwashers, cookers, and air conditioning units. This is because the Electrolux brand name has branched out and joined with other well known and successful brands. Any home appliance that is sold under the names AEG, Eureka, or Frigidaire are all created by the Electrolux
company and you can trust that they have been created with the same high standards.

Making life easier for the modern family is what got Electrolux started in the first place and now 90 years later this is still the main purpose of the Electrolux appliances that can be found on the market today. Even when the world of kitchen and home appliances changed in 1935, Electrolux was able to keep up. When Sears and Roebuck released the first model of refrigerator that was "streamlined", the world of the home appliance changed forever.

Functionality alone was no longer enough to make an appliance successful on the market. From that point on, all home and kitchen appliances needed to look good too. Creating designs that were aesthetically pleasing also became a priority of Electrolux appliances. The changes of the 1930s and 1940s brought about a streamlined look to Electrolux appliances. Designers knew they had to keep up with the modern housewife and her tastes, and they made an effort to provide products that were actually useful and attractive.

During the 1950's and 1960's the Electrolux brand continued to keep up with all of the most modern developments in home appliances. They maintained excellent sales records and service the world over. Their sales numbers took off and their manufacturing had a hard time keeping up with all of the orders coming in. This popularity in their products lead to expansion of the Electrolux manufacturing plants and the need to increase their workforce in order to keep up with the demand from consumers.

With their roots in design, efficiency, and consumer needs, Electrolux appliances continue to give consumers what they want. They are known the world over for their high quality products that look good and perform as expected. It is no wonder that Electrolux is a leader in the field of home appliances all over the world.

Egypt to announce election results Sunday

(AP) ? Egypt will release results from disputed presidential elections Sunday, the country's top elections commission official said ? an announcement that will put an end to the country's nerve-wracking uncertainty about who is the official winner, but promises no end to the power struggles between Islamists, the military and other factions.

A gathering of secular-leaning politicians criticized on Saturday what they said was U.S. meddling on behalf of the Muslim Brotherhood, which has claimed victory. Other secularists have stood behind the Islamist group, calling it the likely legitimate winner and the best hope in the current circumstances against continued military domination of the country.

The dispute highlights how the country has been split into deeply polarized camps since the June 16-17 runoff vote between the Muslim Brotherhood's candidate Mohammed Morsi and ousted leader Hosni Mubarak's last prime minister Ahmed Shafiq, with both campaigns claiming victory by a narrow margin.

Many Egyptians have rallied behind Morsi as a chance to finally rid the country of the old Mubarak regime, while others support Shafiq as the best bet to counter Islamists and restore order after a year of protests, economic hardship, and fear about crime and continued instability.

But there is little hope that the results will lead to an end to 16 months of political turmoil. A Morsi victory will likely see the new civilian government fight for its authority against a military that has ensured its powers persist past the transition. A Shafiq victory will be seen by large sections of the public as illegitimate, as he is perceived as the favored candidate of the military rulers that appointed the election commission.

The commission postponed official results that had been scheduled to be announced on Thursday, leading to speculation that the military rulers are using the results as a bargaining chip in backroom negotiations with the Brotherhood about post-election division of powers.

In addition to a Morsi or Shafiq victory, a third possibility is that Egypt remains in political limbo: The elections commission may decide to annul the runoff vote and call for new elections in some or all constituencies due to allegations of irregularities by both sides.

Farouk Sultan, the head of the Supreme Presidential Election Commission, said Saturday the results would be announced the next day but did not give further details.

Underlying the tensions are a series of rulings and decrees just before and during the vote that have been perceived as a push by the military to monopolize power and leave the president with only limited authority.

The military has pledged to hand over power to civilian rule by July 1. But on June 15, the country's highest court dissolved the country's Islamist-led parliament, calling the law under which it had been elected unconstitutional. Two days later the generals issued a declaration in which they gave themselves legislative powers, including the right to draft a constitution.

On Saturday, Maj. General Mahmdouh Shaheen, a member of the ruling council and its legal adviser, would not comment on negotiations with the Brotherhood. He said there are no plans to amend the constitutional declaration entrenching the executive and legislative powers of the generals.

"There is no amending of the constitutional declaration. It is just like the constitution," he told The Associated Press.

Brotherhood leaders say the military is holding the election results hostage to get the movement to accept the power grab.

The Islamist group has compiled what it says is a detailed breakdown of election results proving Morsi's victory. Brotherhood leaders have called their followers to Cairo's Tahrir Square, the birthplace of the 2011 uprising that overthrew Mubarak. Along with some secular-leaning activist groups, the protesters have vowed "a new revolution" if Shafiq is the winner, claiming that a loss would prove that election fraud was orchestrated by the military.

Meanwhile, the ruling generals accused Islamists of stirring tension and threatened to crack down on any violence by any group unhappy with election outcome.

Rumors have circulated about preparations for violence by both sides, feeding the tense atmosphere. Posters on the social networking sites of Facebook and Twitter warned Egyptians that the security apparatus is training thugs inside their camps to use them to break up protests when the results are announced.

The independent Al-Youm Al-Sabaa daily's website said that authorities reinforced the security presence near the headquarters of the elections commission, deploying troops and explosives experts.

Groups who have opposed both Mubarak and the Islamists ? liberals, leftists, secularists, and others ? are divided.

Some youth groups and liberal figures say they have joined ranks with Islamists for the sake of democracy. They say they have received assurances from Morsi that he will form a national unity government headed by an independent.

Others accuse the Brotherhood of "hijacking" the revolution and accused the United States of trying to sway the results in favor of Islamists.

On Saturday, a bloc of liberal and leftist parties represented in the disbanded parliament? the Free Egyptians, the Tagammu, and the National Democratic Front ? held a news conference accusing the Brotherhood of trying to blackmail elections officials with street demonstrations.

"We have to protect the revolution from those who want to hijack it," said Osama el-Ghazali Harb of the National Democratic Front said. "The rallies in the square reflect only lack of confidence, and an attempt to force the results in advance ... Real democracy means the courage to accept defeat."

Many liberals see the Brotherhood's newfound spirit of confrontation and inclusiveness as hypocritical. They backed the military's transition plan throughout most of last year and were also perceived to try to dominate the drafting of the constitution.

During Saturday's press conference, liberals accused the United States of putting pressure on the ruling military council to hand power to the Brotherhood.

"We have seen the US forcing military council to hand power to the Brotherhood," Harb said. Activist Mahmoud al-Allali said U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton "is giving directions and instructions, directly and sharply."

On Wednesday, Clinton had demanded that the military "support the democratic transition, to recede by turning over authority."

Clinton spoke against the military's attempts to keep a strong grip on power and said, "The military has to assume an appropriate role, which is not to try to interfere with, dominate or subvert the constitutional authority."

U.S. officials had earlier expressed concern that a Shafiq victory could have dangerous fallout, with protests and ensuing instability that could lead the military to take even stronger measures. The officials spoke earlier on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.

PFT: Fans want Saints to pay Brees

Indianapolis Colts v New Orleans SaintsGetty Images

Lost in the recent storm of developments and debates on whether the Saints put contracts on opposing players is the fact that the team?s starting quarterback doesn?t have a contract of any kind.

But with the deadline for getting a long-term deal finalized only three weeks and three days away, folks in New Orleans are becoming increasingly restless, as explained by Jarrett Bell of USA Today.

?With all the crap happening here, they should just sign Drew Brees and get the drama over with,? Edmond Belizaire, a New Orleans taxi driver, told Bell. ??Jonathan Vilma won?t be here this year. ?Will Smith will be gone for a few games. ?But with Drew Brees, you?ve still got a shot at getting to the Super Bowl.?

Bell explains that, while fans in New Orleans typically are inclined to side with management, Brees gets the benefit of the doubt on this one.

?Brees could be mayor of New Orleans,? Belizaire said.

The quarterback continues to avoid blame or scrutiny for his reluctance to accept a one-year offer that would pay him more than $1 million per game. ?He wants a long-term deal, and even though the team reportedly has overstated his financial demands, no one in N.O. seems to be turning on Brees.

?Brees is the glue,? said Nathan Washington, a bellman at a local hotel. ??He deserves whatever he?s asking for. ?How can you not give it to him? ?If that?s a problem for the Saints, I?ll start up a fund and take to the streets. ?If you?re talking about Brees, this community would chip in and pay for it.?

Actually, some fans have tried to do that. ?From May 29 through June 4, they raised $2,455.36. ?The absence of an updated total in 18 days makes us wonder whether they?ve dropped the effort ? or whether they absconded to Mexico to retire . . . as long as they plan to live only for another month.

This drama shouldn?t last for more than another month. ?Despite premature reports from a couple of weeks ago that a deal between Brees and the Saints is close, there?s no reason to believe the two sides won?t wrap this up by 4:00 p.m. ET on July 16.

And there?s still a chance that, after the June 27 hearing on whether Brees? 2013 franchise tender would be $19 million or $23 million, both sides will fear losing on that $4 million question, prompting them to find a middle ground before arbitrator Stephen Burbank issues a ruling.

Either way, Saints fans will get what they want soon. ?The only question is whether Brees? absence for the entire offseason program will keep the team from getting off to the kind of fast start that ensures the road to the Superdome will go through the Superdome.

Wheels Blog: Tesla Motors Delivers Model S in California

FREMONT, Calif. ? On a Friday filled with press conferences, roundtable discussions, production-line walk-throughs and chaperoned test drives, it was only at a concluding pep rally, held on the Tesla Motors factory floor here, that the mood became palpable. As executives for the electric-vehicle start-up handed keys to the first Model S sedans to retail customers, the sense of a victory, to some an improbable one, came across as loud and giddy as any celebration of a basketball championship.

Wearing cherry-red polo shirts, Tesla employees whooped, whistled and hollered as executives recalled the journey to Tesla?s first retail-ready, baked-from-scratch electric car, starting with a meeting in 2008 in which Elon Musk, co-founder and chief executive of Tesla, presented ?a laundry list of things that didn?t equal a sedan,? to his newly hired chief designer, Franz von Holzhausen.

It should seat seven people, have the best zero-to-60 time of any sedan on the road and be the ?best-looking car in the world,? Mr. von Holzhausen recounted to the crowd.

By the rally?s conclusion, 10 vehicles had been released into the wild, most of them painted Signature Red. Mr. Musk and Steve Jurvetson, an early investor, received the first two earlier this month. Five cars were handed over to customers onstage on Friday. And two additional vehicles departed Tesla?s plant for delivery to buyers in Chicago. One Model S was to be taken just across the bay to Palo Alto.

Each car that rolled out of the factory ? a former General Motors plant that had become a Toyota plant ? had a glossy, 17-inch touchscreen control panel that resembled an enormous iPad. Fortunately, the screen has a night mode, which switches most of the bright whites to black, dimming the display enough to reduce the eye-magnet effect. In a move that may please Tesla?s Silicon Valley constituency but rile safety regulators, it is technically possible to use the built-in Internet browser while driving.

And the car manages to accommodate seven people, but just barely. The front seats are cushy but plenty supportive, and two passengers can sit comfortably in the second row (three adults, however, would be a squeeze). Two rear-facing child seats, which fold neatly into the floor, are tiny and cramped beneath the sloped roof.

Tesla recommends these seats for children up to age 10. Combined with increasingly stringent rules for child safety seating (California law, for example, requires children up to age 8 or a height of 4-foot-9 to ride in a booster seat), this suggests limited utility.

The sloping roof, designed to help minimize wind resistance, also hampered rearward visibility during a brief test drive on the roads and highways near the factory, leaving just a narrow slit of glass in which to view approaching traffic.

Nancy Pfund, a managing partner at D.B.L. Investors, an early Tesla backer and a former managing director for JPMorgan Chase, was one of the Model S customers presented with keys?(electronic ones, of course) by Mr. Musk. On the sidelines of the event, she said the car would become her daily driver.

?I?ve been driving ? keeping my fingers crossed that it wouldn?t break down ? an old Mercedes,? Ms. Pfund said. She plans to retire the 2000 Mercedes-Benz and use the Model S for errands and her commute: 14 miles across the bay to San Francisco, and south to Silicon Valley, ?about 100 miles round-trip,? she said. ?They do have two charging stations at my office, so they?re all excited to have me come in on Monday.?

Of course, as any Tesla employee would argue, the Model S is not intended for such narrow use. The versions that went out on Friday were built with the Signature Performance package, and priced from just under $100,000. This package comes with an 85 kilowatt-hour battery pack, rated by the Environmental Protection Agency for up to 265 miles of driving on a full charge.

According to JB Straubel, Tesla?s chief technology officer, the pack consists of more than 7,000 battery cells. Later this year, Tesla plans to begin offering versions of the Model S with smaller battery packs, including a 40 kilowatt-hour choice starting at $57,400 and a 60 kilowatt-hour pack starting at $67,400, excluding a maximum $7,500 federal tax credit.

Tesla?s executives expressed gratitude to the 2,300 buyers of the company?s first vehicle, the Roadster sports car ? built on a chassis from Lotus ? as well as to investors, the raucous crowd of employees and perhaps the most polemical honoree of all, the federal government, which provided Tesla with $465 million in loans through the Energy Department?s Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing program.

?We hope to do really good by the Department of Energy, and show that the support was warranted, and there is a fundamental good that?s been achieved,? Mr. Musk said.

Gov. Jerry Brown made an unannounced appearance at the event. ?California has its issues, but all of you are part of a state that is leading the country, if not the world, and this car is just another example of boldness,? he said.

?I certainly had nothing to do with this,? Mr. Brown added. ?I love it when people spend their money and make great stuff.?

Under Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mr. Brown?s predecessor, the state approved $28.8 million in tax breaks for Tesla in 2009 in an effort to keep the company in California.

?Hopefully these cars will keep coming,? Mr. Brown said. ?By the millions!?

Tesla vehicles, he added, might even make their way into the state fleet, ?as we get a little more money and the price comes down.?

A lot of people these days don?t think of gold among the choices for a retirement plan. Many assume that a retirement plan only need to be in the mode of money and common investing plans. They simply don?t have any idea about what we call retirement gold. They do not have any inkling that gold could be a great investment for retirement.

So why make an investment in gold retirement?

The biggest reason is that gold is an actual asset. The second is because it is its own store of value.

In the past, the dollar was determined by the worth of gold. It was called the gold standard. Currently, things are very different. The dollar isn?t anymore dependent on gold. The US money is now simply paper, the value of it being based upon the dictates of the administration as well as the economic situations. Yet gold still has its worth in itself.

Gold is a hard asset. You may hold it in contrast to stocks and shares. It is possible to keep it by yourself unlike stocks and shares. If you make an investment in stocks and shares, you will know this. When the stock market crashed, the traders forfeited all they had invested in. Yet gold nonetheless has its own worth in itself.

Essential matter: Gold is actually more reliable than dollars, stocks, bonds, and sometimes, even real estate investment.

What about inflation?

Retired people are often susceptible to inflation. The very same dollars that they worked hard for 20 years ago has lost much of its value now!

Great news! There are numerous instances when gold improved while the dollar reduced in worth. The rising cost of living helps make the monetary value of gold actually higher? in part due to the erosion of the dollar?s value.

But be warned. Just like a number of other assets, gold?s value likewise fluctuates.

The prices for gold will be different every once in awhile, occasionally, gold will be worth some dough and some other times, it will be worth 10 times more than what was bought it for. Once the costs are good to get gold, it?ll be wise to check into this investment option. However, it?s exactly the same with regards to trying to sell the gold in the future because the rates will vary and the prices will be better as compared to other instances.

What amount must you invest in the retirement gold plan?

This is a simple solution. The most common advice for everyone, this includes retirees, is to get twenty to thirty percent of your assets in gold.

One thing is important to understand, gold is a wonderful asset choice for the long run for retirement. It may even have a good pay off and might lead to an early retirement! It just depends upon the circumstances. It really is worth everybody?s effort to think about making an investment in a retirement gold program.

SNES001 Advance gives two retro gamers a screen to play, guarantees no fights for TV time video

There's been no shortage of SNES mods with built-in screens. They almost always tend to overlook one fundamental problem, however: with only one screen, gamers have to either share one tiny LCD or play solo, and neither option will make that Street Fighter II nostalgia trip a pleasant one. Frequent console modder Downing has offered a fix with a key trade-off. Although his Super Famicom-like SNES-001 Advance is decidedly non-portable, each gamepad has its own LCD to show what would normally go to one screen, even with audio. Both controllers are custom-molded creations that still plug in the old-fashioned, wired way. Downing certainly isn't hoarding his creation, despite it being one of a kind. An auction for the console (with a $500 buy-now price) is still well underway as of this writing, making sure that at least two Double Dragon fans will be happy without cutting into their less sentimental roommate's Netflix marathon.
