NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) ? Imprisoned former Nogales Mayor Octavio Garcia-Von Borstel has been put on notice by the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Either clean up his adopted section of Interstate 19 in southern Arizona or his membership in the Adopt-a-Highway program will be canceled.
ADOT spokesman Dustin Krugel tells the Nogales International (http://bit.ly/r5jks0 ) the agency would send Garcia-Von Borstel a notice of cancellation giving him 30 days to respond or conduct a litter pick-up in the area near Tubac (TOO'-bak), where a sign proclaims him as the adopted caretaker of the roadside.
Krugel says if Garcia-Von Borstel does not respond, his permit will be cancelled and ADOT's Tucson District will remove the sign as soon as possible.
Garcia-Von Borstel is serving time in a prison facility near Kingman about 350 miles from his stretch of adopted highway.
