Branson still cleaning up ten months after Leap Day tornado

BRANSON, Mo. - Rubble, empty lots and for sale signs -- that's just part of what people see when they drive the Branson strip.

Beneath the bright lights of Branson, cleanup still continues from the Leap Day tornado. Many people are wondering when or if the town will return to the way it was.

It could be years before every damaged property is up and running again. Some business owners say they will wait a while until the national economy bounces back.

The tornado damaged roughly 52 commercial properties. About half of those, such as the Hilton hotel at the Branson Landing, rebuilt -- and are open for business.

It's been a lot slower for the other half.

Construction has just begun for many properties. And for the others a demolition date isn't even set on the calendar.

Those at the Economic Planning office say they are confident... the town will rebound from the storm.

The Riverboat Motel is one venue destroyed by the tornado. The owner there says they will demolish the building next year -- and have no solid plans to rebuild.
