British actor Tom Hiddleston was one of the many people to attend the recent BFI London Film Festival, along with Tim Burton, Helena Bonham Carter, etc., etc.
Hiddleston wasn?t there just to smile for the cameras, wearing his black-tie best, and wave to his many fans, he had a job to do as one of the judges deciding the Best British Newcomer Award. Joining Hiddleston were producer David Heyman, director Eran Creevy, actress Olivia Colman, .and novelist Kazuo Ishiguro (whose books The Remains of the Day and Never Let Me Go were made into films. Ishiguro also wrote the screenplay for The Saddest Music in the World, for Canadian director Guy Maddin.)
The Best British Newcomer Award went to Sally EI Hosaini, who wrote and directed My Brother the?Devil.

Tom Hiddleston?s sweet tooth is a sort of a laughing/talking point for his fans.
At first there was some confusion on this side of the ocean, with some American fans not realizing that the word ?pudding? is the British catch-all term for dessert and does not necessarily refer to the dish that can also be called ?custard.?

Hmmm, these photos of sweet things are from an ?Afternoon Tea? a few days earlier. One needs energy for decision making. Presumably the festival feeds its judges well and Hiddleston had his fair share. He?s? a runner and always looks slender (occasionally verging on gaunt, to the distress of his fans, who worry about his health) so he doesn?t have to worry about calories. We should all be so lucky. . .sigh. . .

In the video below, Claire Bueno of the movie news channel Premiere Scene interviews Tom Hiddleston outside the BFI London Film Festival. Three of his films were shown at BFI in previous years and Hiddleston says that the first film he made, Unrelated (directed by Joanna Hogg), had its premiere at BFI. ?In many ways, I owe my career to the BFI.? And now, here he is, back as a judge.
Hiddleston explains that he and his fellow jurors gave their award to Sally EI Hosaini?s film after considering David Heyman?s questions: ?(Which character) do you care about the most?? ?Who moved you?? ?Who grabbed your heart???
Fans will find the usual combination of intelligent thought, humility, gratitude and enthusiasm that they have come to expect from Hiddleston. (He says ?exciting? or ?excited? three time in three minutes, and not in a throwaway manner, either.) He tells Bueno that she?s asked an ?amazing question.?
Non-fans might (or then again, they might not), begin to grasp what all the fuss is about.
