Heart Attacks in Women
31 August 2011 No Comment
THIS WEEK ON WEDNESDAY?S WOMEN?S HEALTH:
It seems to me that people tend to associate heart problems with men, but the truth of the matter is that according to the national heart lung and blood institute ? WOMEN ACCOUNT FOR HALF OF ALL THE HEART ATTACKS IN THE UNITED STATES.
Which means heart disease impacts everyone. I want women to be aware of the signs and symptoms associated with heart attack as well as avoid or decrease risk factors associated with heart attacks. Heart attacks scare me. I have known many people to experience heart related disease. I hope I can reach at least one person out there able to make a change.
Risk Factors associated with heart attacks include:
- Smoking
- Diabetes
- High Blood Pressure
- Family History
- High Cholesterol
- Obesity
- Lack of Physical Activity
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) indicates that many of they symptoms associated with heart attacks are experienced by women as much as a month before the heart attack.
The?Signs and Symptoms to watch for include:
- Shortness of breath
- Pain or discomfort in the center of the chest
- Pain, discomfort, or loss of filling in upper limbs
- Trouble sleeping, breaking out in a cold sweat, or light-headedness
As with pretty much any disease associated with the heart ? one particular good prevention method is to eat and live healthy. Choose a weight loss program that incorporates both healthy eating habits and exercise habits that are both enjoyable to you and fit into your lifestyle.
